2000-2001 Season Just Around the Corner

Preparations for the third season of Curl Mesabi are currently underway. Expectations are high that this will be the most successful season to date.September 2000 Newsletter

The lease with the Quad Cities Joint Recreation Board should be finalized. This lease is fair to both the Curlers and the Quad Cities. Andrea Zupuncich has been hired as the new manager for the RRCC. She is very enthusiastic and motivated to assist with the upcoming season, as well as, finding various other uses for the RRCC during the off season.

Curl Mesabi’s web site is currently up and running at www.curlmesabi.com. Check out the site, if you have any suggestions, please do not hesitate to email curling@curlmesabi.com with recommendations. Also if you would prefer to receive this newsletter and other club bulletins electronically, email the same address with your request and your email address. Newsletters and bulletins will also be posted on the web site for review.

Curl Mesabi will also try and install a number of the overhead cameras for the upcoming season. These should work through the televisions that are currently mounted in the upstairs viewing area. If you would like to donate towards the purchase of a camera or other associated equipment, please contact Craig Wainio at 749-5297.

Due to a few break-ins, the RRCC has started to used the building alarm system. The system will be armed during the late night hours. So you midnight curlers should be aware.

Icemakers and Volunteers Needed

Rory Malner has agreed to be Ice Maker for four sheets for the upcoming season. We are still looking for someone to handle the other four sheets. Rory has graciously agreed to work with the new Ice Maker to get them up to speed. Anyone interested please contact Rory. Remember you actually get paid for this fun and exciting job.

After the off season, the club is in need of a general cleaning. The last weekend in September has been scheduled for the “fall” cleaning. Any able bodied person is encouraged to show-up.

Other improvements to the curling area scheduled, include new hacks for four of the sheets, so they all match and hopefully further rock matching.

Another Full Season Ahead

As you can see with the schedule and with the various leagues, there is another very busy season at Curl Mesabi. There is always room for more, like that one person you thought would enjoy the sport and camaraderie, go ahead and ask them to join. Look at how many new friends were made over the last two seasons since the clubs joined. Just imagine how many more friendships could be made if everybody asked just one new person to join.

Of course with this many events, your help is needed to make them all success. You can help with the ice, the Bonspiels, the leagues, the merchandising or the advertising. Everybody has the ability to assist or spearhead any of these activities.

Those interested in advertising at the RRCC, the opportunity still exists. Please contact Andrea to work out the details. Remember, this advertising helps Curl Mesabi.
