CURL MESABI |
Volume 1, Issue 1 September 1999 Another Season is Upon UsCurling to Start in October Hope everybody had a great summer, however as fall approaches it is time to put away the golf clubs and fishing rods and pull out the Curling equipment. This season is looking to be even more successful then our inaugural as Curl Mesabi. From the middle of November to the end of March, there will be curling activities taking place practically every day. Headlining for the 99-00 season is the Senior Nationals to be held February 17th-20th. Senior NationalsAs Curl Mesabi's first National competition we need your help with the Senior Nationals. Gene "Gene the Curling Machine" Johnson (741-8312), Bruce Johnson (744-2345) and the rest of the committee have done an excellent job landing and organizing the event but they need volunteers before and during the event. Please notify them, sign up at the Club or at the fall membership meeting. Membership Meeting - Open HouseThe annual fall general membership meeting is scheduled for October 19th at 6:00PM, please plan to attend for all the info on the upcoming season, hors d'oeuvres, pop and beer to be provided. In conjunction with the membership meeting, our curling open house is to be held October 19th through the 21st. Come down and volunteer, or bring a prospective new curler to learn the game and maybe get involved in a league. Icemaking AssistantsChuck "Pebbles" Rozinka and Phill Drobnick have agreed to be head icemakers for the upcoming season. Ice making is to begin September 26th, volunteers are needed to put down the mats and with painting and flooding. They are desperately in need of some assistants for this very important and rewarding position. They also need some volunteers to help with pebbling and ice cleaning during the various events scheduled, especially during the Senior Nationals. Please contact Chuck (744-4074) or Phill (744-4048) to participate in this exciting opportunity to learn the fine art of icemaking. LeaguesLeagues will be scheduled the same as during last season. We are currently looking for league coordinators for the various sessions, please contact Phill Drobnick (744-4048) or sign up at the membership meeting to volunteer as a league coordinator. Leagues are scheduled to officially start the week of November 15th, practice nights will start two weeks prior. Sign-ups will be available at the Club or during the membership meeting. Junior Coordinators NeededNortheastern Minnesota Junior Curling Association After a very successful program last year, Tim and Linda Drobnick have declined the Junior Coordinator positions for the upcoming season. It will be hard to replace their efforts, however there has to be somebody from our Club who is up to the challenge. This position is essential for the long-term health of our Club, we need to have a successful program and good coordinators. By the way, it is a paid position. Please contact Tom Miller (744-3044) for the Coordinator positions and assistance. Club AdvertisementsAdvertising Committee With this newsletter, you will find an outline for potential business advertisements in the club. If you are a businessperson we encourage you to participate, and pass it along to your colleagues. You may not own a business but you probably know somebody who does, so pass the enclosed along. Advertising at the RRCC will provide extensive exposure during the entire year. Bonspiel ScheduleThe following is a list of the upcoming Bonspiels at Curl Mesabi. Please plan to participate in these upcoming events, that's right its time to start calling the team. Contact the Bonspiel Committee Chair - William T. Maki (744-1130) - to volunteer for or help coordinate the various Spiels.
