MESSAGE FROM YOUR PRESIDENT

Hope your summer was great and you are enjoying the fall!   As all things that are meant to be, the curling season is fast approaching.   In recap, last season was a very special and a very busy one for a lot of members.  “Special” regarding our hosting the World Jr’s (only the 2nd time in US history) and “busy” regarding  all the work: before, during & after the Worlds!   So many people stepped up to the plate to help with all kinds of tasks, and it takes a lot of thought to put into perspective how awesome the year was!   I tip my hat to all of you & especially the 4 co-chairs: Jim Wainio, Rory Malner, Phil Drobnick & Mark Forte, with Dennis Jorgensen doing the financial part. There were a lot of other people chairing sub-committees who did an excellent job!!

This coming year I hope the club members will continue to support the club and be proud of being a part of it.   It is very important for all members to help the club in anyway they can: bartending at least once, carry out garbage when it’s needed, restocking, cleaning floors, locker rooms, bathrooms, vacuuming, shoveling, picking up that empty glass that someone else left. Don’t just wait for the next person to do it.  It is everyone’s club, so be a part of it and be proud of it!  There are some members that do these things weekly, but we have a large membership that should be sharing the load.   Most important is the bartending.  The club spent a lot of money last year hiring paid bartenders.  If your team has a bye, you are needed to bartend that night and should sign up early enough so a paid bartender does not get hired.  If you are not scheduled a bye, then look for a different night and/or a bonspiel to work.  I wish everyone knew how much this would save the club!  We have to work hard and be diligent in keeping our dues down!   It is sad that this plea has to be made.

The Board of Directors has put together a list of items that fall under the volunteering aspect and that are outside of our Club Manager’s job.  This will be posted at the club as guidelines.  Please participate!

Also, try to get a new or past member on the ice this year.  We have to expand our membership.  Please show all new members the hospitality that the sport of curling promotes!

Thanks and “Good Curling”

Gordy Dahl

If you know any Juniors that would like to participate in the Sunday night league please talk to

Jim Newman or Tom Miller.  This is a vital part of our club and we want to encourage the younger set to participate in this great game called curling!!!

THINGS TO REMEMBER

It is always important to start games on time and keep play moving.  This is only common courtesy for your opponent and for the league following the one you are playing in.  With this in mind, please take a moment to read the following and make them part of your routine:

~Be on time:  Always be dressed and ready to play 15 minutes before game starting time.

~Be ready:  Start with a handshake.  Leads be ready to throw the first rock.  Once your opponents’ rock is delivered, return to behind the hack and be ready to deliver your next rock.

~Be in position:  Be prepared to sweep as soon as your teammate releases the rock.

~Be courteous:  Stay between the hog lines and motionless while your opponents deliver their rocks.  Only skips and thirds are allowed in the house.  Compliment a good shot.  End the game with a handshake.

~Be a good steward:  Use only equipment that is in good shape.  Keep shoes and the ice clean.

~To make the Treasurer’s job somewhat easier, we encourage you to pay your dues and locker fees in advance or to your Skip, as the Skip will be responsible for collecting their team’s fees

by the first night of curling.~
